1)
How does it all work?
Messy Pups mobile dog grooming use a vehicle fitted
with everything needed to wash, dry, groom and clip your dog. It's a
'complete dog grooming centre that comes to you'. We have a built
in bath, water tank with heater, a warm air dryer and grooming table all
purpose built for mobile use. All we require from you (apart from your dog)
is somewhere to park near to your home or office and a socket for power. Our
hook up cable with the extension is about 50 metres long. It
takes us a couple of minutes to get set up and once we are ready we will
come and speak to you about your requirements, take your dog out to the
vehicle and bring them back squeaky clean!
2) Do you just wash the dogs?
We offer the same service as most grooming parlours. With every dog we groom
the coat, clean the ears / eyes and clip the nails. We also carry a flea treatment shampoo which stops the
irritation caused by fleas and ticks but isn't a substitute for normal flea
prevention products available from your vet. A treatment with our flea
shampoo costs between £3-6 extra depending on the size of dog. If your vet has prescribed a
medicated shampoo for a skin condition then we can also apply that in place
of our shampoo. We can also just clip / trim / groom dogs without washing
them if you prefer, although we don't recommend this as the finished result
isn't as good if the dog isn't washed and dried by us just before we clip
them. If you do book a 'clip only' appointment please ensure that you
wash your dog the day before your appointment and that they stay clean and
dry until we arrive. We are unable to clip a wet or dirty dog. Nail clipping is included in every groom but
we do offer nail clipping on its own at £8 per dog.
3) How long does it take?
This depends entirely on the dog. As a guide a Labrador takes about 50 mins, Westies, GSD's
Spaniels etc take about 1.5 hours. These times are just
approx, there are lots of factors that can affect how long we have to spend
on each dog. For instance, if your dog doesn't have the benefit of regular brushing at home then it
will take us longer to remove the matts and brush through the entire coat. Likewise, if a dog becomes stressed or upset with the procedure we
will give them a little rest and try and calm them down (although most dogs
enjoy the whole process and often get upset when we stop brushing them!)
If you are un-able to brush your dog on a regular basis, then give us call
as we offer regular brushing / grooming at a reduced rate.
4) Do you offer hand-stripping?
Due to the nature of mobile grooming we work on one dog at a time until they
are finished. Hand stripping is best done over a whole day to give the dog
several breaks as some dogs find hand stripping a bit uncomfortable. Because
of this, we don't offer full hand stripping. We can do rough strips and we
have several clients who are happy with this but we won't put a dog through
a full hand strip all in one go. Feel free to call for more info on this.
5) Do
I have to do anything or clear up
the mess?
Not at all. But you do have to open the door so we can come and speak to you
and get your dog! There is absolutely no mess for you to clear up as we
carry out the whole procedure in the vehicle. We even take the hair away
with us (although a little bit does blow out of the vehicle if the door is
open).
6)
How much does it cost?
Again this depends entirely on the breed, condition of the coat and what you
would like done. Most breeds have an inclusive set price but some breeds
have a 'between' price. For instance, some springers only need a slight trim
whereas others need a full clip. We can give you an estimate when you book, as long as you
are honest with your description! If you are not sure on the breed and coat
condition then we should be able to give you a more accurate quote once we
have seen the dog. Don't be ashamed to tell us that your dog may have
some matts. Very few longer coated breeds are matt free, but please do
be honest as we have to estimate how much time to dedicate to you when you
book.
7) What areas do you cover?
We cover Eastbourne, Hailsham, Bexhill and surrounding areas. If you live just outside these areas and
are interested in using us then give us a call and we'll see what we can do.
8)
Do you groom every breed of dog?
There are certain dogs that we can't work on:
- Massive breeds such as Newfoundlands and Mountain dogs as they don't
fit in our bath.
- Show dogs.... we are pet groomer's, not show groomer's.
- Security dogs (inc. pub dogs) as these are not covered by our
insurance.
- Standard Poodles.
- And we don't groom cats!
We also reserve the right to refuse to work on snappy and aggressive dogs
and if we feel threatened by your dog, we may bring them back un-finished
and end the grooming session early.
Don't forget to fill in our on-line questionnaire after your
grooming session. Please read the booking page before making
your appointment.
